And so they return, back to the City, back to the dry land to which they cling.

And so we are taught a fascinating lesson in priorities, in who sank, in who swam, in who tried to rescue. In who saved themselves.

And in who sacrificed to save everyone.

The Deus ex Machina II will be coming in. Does anyone wish a pickup?

[[OOC: Funnily enough, you'll actually be safe if you get on with him. There's no fun in letting an enemy die from a silly little disaster. I'm assuming that's how it's working now? I saw references to rescue ships.]]

A strangely Darwinian taint to your words.

Darwinian, you say?

Hmmmmm.

No, no I don't think so at all. An interesting character study to be sure, but my observations are hardly about those whose genes have best adapted to the specific situation to continue their reproductive lines.

Social Darwinism.

Social?

So only the "upper classes" survived, while the mentally handicapped and ill died?

Or the physically challenged?

Well, if that's the case, we all know what Social Darwinism leads to.

Oh, I certainly do.

My Fuhrer certainly did, as did our allies in Italy.

Our opponents in America did, ask them about their camps.

But wait, these are figures from history long past for you. Records might be long obliterated. Let us suggest some closer to home.

Herr Knives certainly knows where this leads, as does Herr Legato.

In some ways, Iscariot knows where it leads quite well. Anyone who is from an earth post 1940's would know.

And of course, we can't forget your brother.

He knows quite well.

I'll have you know that I'm an avid historian. The Vatican keeps private records.

Inciting people against one another because of differences, any differences-- priorities, beliefs, or otherwise --is disgusting.

Stop poking for strife.

Are you? Then I recommend brushing up on the societal movements of the 19th Century.

Really, Father Nightroad, surely you know me better than that.

If I do not poke for strife, what else will I do?

On the contrary, I don't know you at all. I only know that everything you say is utterly depraved. What kind of a man gets enjoyment out of inciting a war? Do yourself a favor and don't make any enemies.

Get a hobby. Gardening is a popular one.

Don't make any enemies, Father Nightroad?

You call yourself a historian, just who do you think you're talking to?

Would it be more helpful if I wore the black uniform of the Waffen-SS, with the Totenkopf on my brow?

I think these things matter quite a bit, Frauline Blake.

Survival above all.

But who's?

It's a pack thing.

I pulled thirty-seven people out of the debris. Everyone's survival counted. It didn't matter about the social class.

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]warconductor
2008-04-16 01:57 am UTC (link)
Indeed it does not. Elsewise we would be in the Social Darwinism model Father Nightroad prescribed, the one that ruled the actual disaster.

So it was survival of others that mattered and not your own. This?

This matters quite a bit.

The men who laugh?

We must always remember those who laugh, mustn't we? But I thought it somewhat... arrogant to include myself.

Well, perhaps it is a tad arrogant to include oneself.

You might want to include those on land, biting their nails, too.

Ahh, but ladies that is another study entirely, those who waited on land. I speak currently of those on the ship.

For those on the land, we must look at those who wished to help and those who despaired.

And those who simply didn't say anything at all.

Overrated?

Possibly.

More likely a myth, but further experimentation would be required to verify.
